Updated: Jul 30

The United Nations Working Group on Trafficking in Persons, subsidiary body of the Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Convention against Transnational Organized Crime (UNTOC) and the subsequent Constructive Dialogues took place in Vienna, Austria, from 8 to 10 July 2024. The topics discussed were child trafficking and human trafficking for the purposes of organ harvesting.

This is the main forum of the United Nations system for debate and exchange between Member States and civil society organizations on human trafficking. 90% of countries have committed to implementing the United Nations Trafficking in Persons Protocol.

As members of the IBVM worldwide network, the Mary Ward Centre contributed to a policy statement focused on child trafficking and drew attention to the vulnerability of migrant children. The statement reflects experiences of the IBVM sisters and ministries from around the world (India, Africa, Spain, Albania, and Canada through the Mary Ward Centre in Toronto).
