Jubilee 2025 is a global movement rooted in justice and solidarity, building on the transformative success of Jubilee 2000, which led to the cancellation of $100 billion in debt for 36 low-income countries. However, the global financial system was not restructured to prevent future crises. Today, many nations in the Global South continue to spend more on debt repayments than on healthcare, education or climate action.
In addition, many countries in the Global South and Indigenous communities worldwide suffer environmental harms from the Global North's consumption and resource exploitation of their lands, creating an unacknowledged "ecological debt.”
This isn’t just an economic issue—it’s a moral imperative.
